Uniting the Nordic Countries Through Inspiration and Dance – The Nordic DanceSport League, as part of Norway International, brings together dancers from across Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Iceland, creating an inclusive cross-border platform where beginners and intermediate athletes from the age of 10 — including the Para-DanceSport community — can compete, grow and share the joy of DanceSport in true Nordic spirit.

Oslo, Norway – Norway International Introduces Streamlined Competition Structure Inspired by Nordic Collaboration
The Norway International Dance Championships will introduce a new and streamlined competition structure designed to inspire dancers and strengthen participation across the Nordic DanceSport community.
Drawing inspiration from an idea first presented by Dans Danmark in 2021, the Norwegian Dance Federation has chosen to organise a series of supporting competitions under the Norway International umbrella, creating a clearer and more inspiring competition environment for dancers from the Nordic countries.
While Norway International continues to host prestigious international competitions under the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF) structure, the event will also include competitions designed specifically for dancers below the international elite level. The aim is to ensure that dancers at different stages of their development can experience the atmosphere and inspiration of an international DanceSport event.
Creating Inspiration for Nordic Dancers
The initiative reflects a shared Nordic ambition to inspire participation and strengthen the grassroots of DanceSport. By structuring competitions more clearly and welcoming dancers from across the Nordic countries, Norway International aims to provide an inspiring international experience for developing athletes.
The structure is built around three key principles:
Inspiration – creating a positive and exciting competition environment where young and developing dancers can experience international competition.
Development – supporting the natural progression from grassroots participation to higher competitive levels.
Community – providing an opportunity for dancers, coaches and clubs from the Nordic countries to meet, compete and share experiences.
A Clear Competition Pathway
Under the new structure, competitions below the WDSF Open level will be organised in clearly defined categories, ensuring that dancers compete against others at comparable stages of development.
This structure is designed to support:
• Beginner dancers entering competition for the first time
• Developing dancers building experience beyond national events
• Intermediate competitors preparing for future international championships
By creating this framework within Norway International, dancers are able to participate in an international event while competing in categories suited to their level.
Inspired by Nordic Dialogue
The concept builds on ongoing dialogue within the Nordic DanceSport community about how best to create more opportunities for developing dancers. The idea, originally presented by Dans Danmark, highlighted the value of creating inspiring competition environments that bring the Nordic DanceSport community together.
Norway International now provides such a platform — an event where dancers from the Nordic countries can compete, gain experience and be inspired by the broader DanceSport environment.
One Event – Many Pathways
With this approach, Norway International becomes more than a competition; it becomes a meeting place for dancers at all stages of their journey.
From first-time competitors to experienced international athletes, the event aims to inspire participation, strengthen the DanceSport community and celebrate the shared passion for dance.
Norway International – where dancers come together to compete, learn and be inspired.
